Waterproof vinyl versus laminate explained.

Waterproof vinyl versus laminate explained.

Despite the industry terminology, no floor is waterproof. If you have a flood, most likely, the floor will need be replaced, that is what insurance is for. However, if you are installing in a high moisture area, such as a damp basement or a 3 season room, vinyl will be the most stable.

Today’s laminate flooring is far more moisture resistant than in the past. Spills from above will most likely not penetrate through the gaps as the advanced locking systems are tight and sealed. The main concern would be moisture from below, which is why a moisture barrier is required.
